The Nat Fuller Committee hereby invites the reader to set up a Nat Fuller Feast in his or her own city in honor of Nat Fuller’s legacy and his dedication to creating a space for reconciliation.
For more information about Nat Fuller’s life and work, please visit the Lowcountry Digital History Initiative site, and consult Chef Kevin Mitchell’s discussion of Chef Fuller’s repertoire. A still more complete discussion of the food and the feast can be found in the biography of Nat Fuller authored by David Shields and Kevin Mitchell. All proceeds from the biography will be put in service of future feasts.
The committee invites you to stage the feast at any date that would be significant for your community. The Southern Foodways Alliance is planning to hold a Nat Fuller Feast in Birmingham, Alabama, in late February 2016 with chefs Frank Stitt and Kevin Mitchell.
The next feasts in South Carolina will be held on either April 19 (the anniversary of the original event), or June 17 (in commemoration of the Charleston Massacre).
